Anita Balasubramanian(Ph.D.)
I am a yoga teacher and therapist with IAYT certified training from YogaVahini (under Saraswathi Vasudevan), a Reiki master (attuned by Usha, Sacred Paths) and a Vedic chanting teacher having learnt it from multiple teachers in the KYM tradition. I also hold a PhD in curriculum design and pedagogy along with a post-graduate degree in electrical engineering. I am passionate about parenthood, relationships, and education. I believe in Krishnamurti’s vision of education as a means to bring integration in an individual, help one understand oneself, see the significance of life as a whole, and be free from fear and repetitive patterns of thought and living.
As an educator and healer at heart, I bring a wide range of expertise from my educational and professional journey to create unique programs and spaces that foster deeper levels of understanding, self-exploration and transformation. In my sessions I integrate philosophical and scientific perspectives with healing modalities from both the East and the West to help individuals understand themselves, bring about inner change, and connect to their inner guiding light for a fuller experience of life and self.
I have also completed numerous courses and programs such as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Non-violent Communication, Conflict Resolution and Court Mediation, Shiatsu, Basics of Acupressure, Pranic Healing, Inner Child Healing, Flagship programs of Ritambhara (Inner Work Through Yoga, Mahabharata Immersion, Saptaswara, Yoga-based coaching, Vastu Shastra), Flagship programs of Sacred Path (Self Mastery 1 & 2, Enneagram, Transgenerational Healing, Rebirthing Breathwork), Jyotisham (Astrology), and Understanding Human Group Processes Labs with ISABS.
My professional journey is equally diverse. I have worked as an engineer in a start-up, co-anchored an India-wide alternative education network, served as visiting faculty at TISS, and worked as an educational consultant, developing curriculum, and curating learning materials. I have also been involved in fundraising and advocacy for non-profit organizations. From 2016 to 2021, I was an active member of Ritambhara, where I helped shape and execute various programs, team building, and outreach initiatives. During this time, I curated a blog on Inner work through Yoga Sutra and also contributed to the book Antaranga Yoga: The Foundation of Indian Psychology, alongside my teacher and mentor, Raghu Ananthanarayanan.
My childhood years spent in a small town have given me a love for expansive green spaces, soulful music in multiple languages, Vedic chanting, outdoor and indoor games, reading, good satire, and enjoying the rainy season with a warm cup of ginger tea. I live with my family—my husband, two children, and a dog—dividing our time between our farm and the city. I also share my thoughts and experiences through my blog at www.anitabala.com.
