Yoga came into my life as a remedy for a health condition. I was referred to Yogavahini, Chennai by my dear friend and colleague, Anita Balasubramanian. Getting initiated by Mrs.Saraswathi Vasudevan, founder of Yogavahini, I completed the Yoga Acharya program there & yoga quickly grew into a profound passion.
Since then, I have immersed myself in yoga, chanting, the study of the Yoga Sutra and other texts, and inner reflective work programs offered by Yogavahini & Ritambhara. I am continuously amazed by the extensive benefits yoga offers to human well-being, far beyond the physical, especially in understanding the human psyche and facilitating self-discovery.
Carnatic music and Vedic chanting were integral parts of my childhood. After a career in the software industry, I returned to my roots, teaching classical music and Vedic chanting, which have seamlessly intertwined with my yoga practice. Both music and yoga serve as pathways to connect with the divine quiet within, making every sound a step closer to home.
Trusting in the therapeutic potential of sound, I volunteer at Beyond Autism, Chennai, a center which provides therapy and skill training to about 40 neuro diverse children/adults.
As a devotee of Sri Ramana Maharshi, his teachings have been a guiding light during the most challenging times of my life, inspiring my early interest in philosophy. I also find great inspiration in the writings of Sri J Krishnamurthi.
In addition to yoga and music, I am passionate about healthy cooking, leading a minimalistic & sustainable lifestyle & believe in “Food is medicine”. I live with my husband and daughter in Chennai. As a family, we love traveling to new places, meeting local people, learning about their cultures, and hiking in the woods. Since the past three years, I have been a proud member of the Vishoka team, contributing to its mission and offerings to the world.
